About The Guild

Standards Before Sentiment

Our Origin

Founded on a Simple Complaint

The CaskMark Sommelier Guild was founded in 2019 by a small group of trade examiners frustrated with certificate mills that awarded credentials for attendance rather than demonstrated skill. We set out to build a program where a candidate's rating actually meant something to an employer, a retailer, or a private collector reviewing a cask offer.

Every module closes with a proctored, examiner-graded practicum. There is no self-assessment quiz standing between a candidate and their certificate — only a panel of trained palates and a fixed rubric.

Our Standards

What Makes CaskMark Different

01

Blind-Tasting Examinations

No branded bottles in the practicum room. Candidates are scored purely on what they can taste and articulate.

02

Dual-Examiner Grading

Every practicum is scored independently by two examiners; disputed scores go to a third review.

03

Published Rubrics

Candidates know exactly what they're graded against before they sit the exam — nothing is left to guesswork.

Meet the Examiners

Our panel is drawn from working distillery, retail, and hospitality professionals — not career educators.
